Riyadh is named as the headquarters for the Regional Safety Oversight Organisation for MENA

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has announced the selection of the city of Riyadh as the headquarters for the Regional Safety Oversight Organisation for the Middle East and North Africa (RSOO – MENA).

 

The organisation aims to promote the safe and effective use of civil aviation within the confines of Member States and non-member States.  In addition, of developing guidance materials, conduct studies, training and consultations, as well as assisting Member States in the development and implementation of the State Safety Program.  The Organisation also aim to assist States in fulfilling their safety oversight obligations under the Chicago Convention and its annexes, including all other procedures and requirements related to air safety.

The President of GACA, Abdul Hakeem Al-Tamimi, announced that having the Kingdom as the host to the headquarter of the Regional Safety Oversight Organisation for the Middle East and North Africa confirms the Kingdom’s leadership in the field of civil aviation.  This in view of the great support received by the civil aviation sector by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince.

He added: “That hosting the organisation headquarter is one of the initiatives offered by Saudi Arabia at the regional and international level to contribute in the support and the development of aviation safety”.

Al-Tamimi added that the Kingdom’s hosting of the headquarter of (RSOO– MENA) clearly contributes to the implementation of the best practices in the civil aviation industry and help in the exchange of expertise among specialists.  Furthermore, it provides technical facilities in the field of civil aviation to carry out the tasks of auditing and inspection required to ensure the highest safety standards and aviation security.  It is also worth noting that the organization is constantly helping in the use and development of civil aviation in a safe and effective manner within and outside organisation. 

He went on to say that, the organisation is contributing to the widening of the government aviation safety training program for inspectors in an effort to enhance technical knowledge and know-how of national inspectors.  Moreover, to further develop and implement a regional training program that enhances the skills and technical knowledge that is required of civil aviation employees in the organisation Member States.
