F rom its own extensive business practice, Lufthansa Consulting says that many existing and potential clients store huge amounts of data in their various IT applications but they do not explore this data to generate potential added value. The professional use of BI technology can achieve previously untapped opportunities. The business relationship between LCG and SAS will enable the companies to combine their competences ─ aviation and business modeling expertise and business analytics applications experience. Together they can now offer customized solutions for complex requirements especially in the airline industry and to better support their clients in a sound and fast decision-making process.

In recent years, Lufthansa Consulting has developed applications and concepts for solutions in fields such as Network Management (COMPASS), Ground Handling and Route Profitability that are used in conjunction with SAS software. Now both companies can benefit even more from the official cooperation and can enter further upscale markets: LCG will develop tools, introduce them into the market and be responsible for the procurement of appropriate applications solutions. SAS will deliver the suitable software and licenses and will gain access to the aviation industry.

There are many uses for the software products based on or supported by SAS in Lufthansa Consulting’s different business areas. Management dashboards, ad hoc analysis, troubleshooting, cost analysis and activity-based management as well as simulation and forecasting are areas of general interest. Especially in the Airline Operations and Maintenance unit there is a great demand, for example, for on‑time performance data analysis, maintenance planning optimization or flight data evaluation and safety management. Additionally, the applications can be used in other divisions for network profitability, yield optimization, cargo booking forecast or passenger flow analysis inside airport terminals.

Since 1976, the privately held company SAS has helped organizations across industries realize the full potential of their greatest asset: data. SAS solutions are used at more than 45,000 sites in over 100 countries, and the company offers the support of more than 11,000 employees in over 50 countries and 400 offices.
