IDEX: Tawazun and GAMI sign strategic partnership deal

Tawazun Economic Council and Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) have signed an MOU to work together to build a strategic partnership to enhance the capabilities of the defence sector, explore the potential for joint projects and identify areas of cooperation in defence industry-related Research & Development (R&D).

The MOU was signed by their excellencies Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Finance and secretary general of Tawazun’s Board of Directors, and Ahmed bin Abdulazis Al-Ohali, governor of GAMI at IDEX 2021 on Monday.
Following the signing, Al Zaabi said: “This agreement sets the course for a new era of joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries in all domains, particularly in R&D, technology transfer, FDIs and joint defence industries.”
Al Zaabi believes that Tawazun is positioned to play a pivotal role in enabling the defence industry and boosting its contribution to the UAE’s sustainable development drive, with the UAE’s Tawazun Economic Programme one of the region’s most successful systems. The Tawazun team aims to exchange expertise and best practices with its Saudi counterpart.
Al-Ohali said: “Under the MOU, we will work to accelerate joint action for implementation of the Tawazun Economic Programmes. The GCC region has huge potential to build sustainable capabilities in defence and military industries, building on the long-standing and mutually beneficial relations with the world’s leading industry and technology players. Our objective is to transfer technology and know-how and to build an integrated base for defence industries in the Gulf,” he stated.
The MOU complements the ongoing cooperation between the UAE and Saudi Arabia in military and defence fields. It follows similar agreements and MOUs signed between the two countries to deepen cooperation in military and defence industries.
