Airbus had been quiet all week following a breakdown in negotiation for a major A380 deal with Emirates but came back this morning with a $49.5 billion agreement for 430 A320neo aircraft with US investment company, Indigo Partners.
The mega contract doubles the Airbus backlog and Indigo will place the aircraft with European and South American airlines.
Then Boeing was also bouncing as Dubai-based hybrid budget-airline Flydubai signed for 225 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, in a deal that will more than triple the airline’s current fleet of 61 aircraft. The aircraft will be delivered over a ten year period beginning in 2019
Less than 24 hours after becoming the launch customer of the CSeries aircraft in the Middle East, EgyptAir announced it had entered a long-term lease agreement with AirCap for 15 Airbus A320neo aircraft powered by the LEAP-1A engine and six Boeing 787-900 aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce. EgyptAir minister Sharif Fathi. Told Arabian Aerospace that this was part of a fleet restructuring and that there was a likely need for double the numbers in the future.
The Dubai Airshow closed with almost  $120 billion worth orders.
