An Air India Express flight carrying 191 people onboard from Dubai has crash landed at Calicut Airport after overshooting the runway in heavy rain.

India's aviation authority said the aircraft skidded off the runway and broke in two upon landing.

At least two people, including the pilot, are reported dead, with at least 35 people in hospital.

The Boeing 737 jet was being operated by the government to repatriate Indians stuck overseas during the coronavirus pandemic.
