Yahsat, which is fully-owned by Mubadala, launched its first satellite into space in April 2011.

Manufactured by Eads Astrium and Thales Alenia, Yahsat 1A (Y1A) offers secure communications links for the government and military institutions.

This second satellite, Y1B, will offer services to military and commercial consumers via high-speed commercial Ka multi-spot beam technology in 25 countries in the Middle East, Africa and South West Asia.

It will also deliver the YahClick broadband internet service when fully operational.

Y1A currently offers 100 per cent coverage over the entire Middle East and Africa region, providing connectivity for point-to-point and other networks.
