The UK's Ministry of Defence is understood to looking to acquire two BAE146 regional jets for use in Afghanistan.
Tender documents are likely to be released this week
with a call for the pair to be acquired and modified under an urgent operational requirement deal.
The deal could be valued at around $9.3 million.
This could be partially fill a looming capability gap caused by the gradual retirement of the RAF's remaining Lockheed Martin C-130K tactical transports and the delayed introduction of a new fleet of 22 Airbus Military A400Ms.
