Total revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs) rose by 8.2 per cent an improvement on the June year-over-year increase of 5.5 per cent. July available seat kilometres (ASKs) increased by 6.5 per cent, and load factor rose 1.4 percentage points to 83.6 per cent.

The Middle East in particular experiences a 19.8 per cent rise year over year, which was aided by this year’s timing of Ramadan. Capacity rose by 17.7 per cent and load factor increased to 79.6 per cent.

Ramadan this year fell partly in July, whereas last year it fell predominantly in July. This decreased the demand for flights last year, which helps the increase of demand during 2015.

IATA’s Director General and CEO, Tony Tyler, said: “July results were strongly positive but slowing global trade and the wild gyrations of stock exchanges around the globe suggest that we may be in for some turbulence in coming months.”
