South Africa's Denel comes to IDEX with an eye on the MENA market

Riaz Saloojee, the Group Chief Executive of Denel says IDEX 2015 hosted by the United Arab Emirates from 22 February is the most important opportunity to grow awareness about the capabilities of the South African defence industry among leaders in the region.

“We have very strong links with the UAE through our joint venture in Tawazun Dynamics, which is the first facility in the Middle East to develop precision-guided weapon systems,” says Mr Saloojee. “We will use this as a platform to inform regional players about our world-class capabilities – especially in the missile and unmanned aerial vehicle environments.

Tawazun Dynamics manufactures the Al Tariq strap-on bomb kit systems which are currently in service with the UAE armed forces.
At IDEX 2015 Denel will also feature some of the other missiles designed and manufactured by Denel Dynamics, the division in the state-owned group responsible for advanced systems technology in the missile and UAV spheres.

Among these will be the A-Darter air-to-air missile jointly developed with the Brazilian defence industry; the battle-proven Ingwe missile with its new capabilities to be launched from light vehicles or tripods; the air-to-ground Mokopa missile and the Umkhonto surface-to-air missile with the ability to engage targets at a distance of 20km.

Denel’s Seeker 400 is a versatile unmanned aerial vehicle that brings enhanced situational awareness to tactical reconnaissance operations. The newly-developed UAV builds on the successful technology utilised by Denel Dynamics for its Seeker 2 and Seeker 200 which have been operational in the UAE.
