SAFA to conduct the first live eCV operational test

Saudi Aviation Flight Academy (SAFA) has invited the International Association of Flight Training Professionals (IAFTP) to conduct the first operational test of its electronicCV (eCV) at SAFA's new pilot training academy near Riyadh.

Captain William Roe, SAFA’s managing director said that SAFA personnel will work with the IAFTP eCV Technical Team to verify operational procedures and functional acceptability of IAFTP’s new personal electronic curriculum vitae for pilots.

Roe said SAFA staff will work with the IAFTP technical team to verify operational procedures and functional acceptability of the new eCV system. This process is expected to take six months to complete.

The IAFTP is an organisation dedicated to the identification, recognition, and timely communication of demonstrable global pilot training best practices.  IAFTP members include flight training professionals directly involved in the conduct and/or support of pilot training activities in more than 50 nations.

IAFTP’s president Robert Barnes said: “It has long been recognised that there should be a way to securely document every pilot’s identity, training, experience, and certifications. It simply has never happened. However, if growth projections for air transport over the next 20 years are correct, the need for such a secure and verifiable pilot CV will become more critical as employers turn increasingly to the worldwide pool of applicant pilots in order to achieve their staffing goals.”

Barnes added that IAFTP’s singular goal is to work toward improving the competency of all pilots – “in airline, air taxi, business, and general aviation – so as to enhance overall aviation safety. Its focus is not to establish standards, create a certification body, or even attempt to influence regulators.”

Once field trials have been completed, IAFTP will offer the eCV through its member Flight Training Organizations as an additional benefit to all IAFTP Individual Professional and Associate Members at no additional charge as part of their annual individual IAFTP Membership.

The eCV will be the property of the individual, not an organization. IAFTP will issue and maintain the credential but the personal information available either on the card or through a secure Internet link shall only be accessible with the physical authorization of the individual, facilitated by the credential’s unique security features.

It is understood that eight SAFA instructors and 30 students will have their own eCV by the end of the initial process.

Barnes said that the organisation’s primary objective is to provide a credible, independent, international clearinghouse for pilot training best practices that have been developed by flight training professionals to respond to individual pilot or operator needs.  Its secondary objective, he said, is to insure that every pilot has a secure, private way to document for life all personal flight training and experience as it relates to these best practices and various regulatory requirements.
