SAEI signs engine test cell contract

Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI) (chalet A29) has awarded a turnkey construction contract for a new 14-metre engine test cell facility in Jeddah, to Safran subsidiary Cenco.

The new facility will enable SAEI to test GE90-94/115 engines, as well as all the current engine programmes, such as CFM56-5B / 7B, CF34-8E / 10E, CF6-80C2D1F, B5F and V2500-D5, and provides growth for future engine programmes, such as Rolls-Royce Trent 700/900/1000, and GE Aviation GEnx-1B / 2B.
SAEI said at the show that the cell should be operational by July 2016, and will position SAEI as one of few companies worldwide with this capability.
