Qatar Airways grounds B787 Dreamliner after 'smoke' incident

Qatar Airways said today that it has grounded one of their Boeing 787 Dreamliners due to a “minor” technical issue. However, the aircraft has not flown for almost a week leading to suggestions that the grounding could be more serious.

Neither Boeing or Qatar are giving any details of the problem, although industry sources say smoke was seen near an electrical panel.
In a statement the airline said: “Qatar Airways confirms an aircraft has been taken out of service, but no flights have been cancelled as a result.
“This is a minor issue for us, and not an incident, so we are not commenting,” an airline spokeswoman said.’
The 787 has suffered a spate of mishaps in recent weeks, including a spontaneous fire on an Ethiopian Airlines-owned 787 that broke out while the plane was parked at a remote stand at London’s Heathrow airport for eight hours on July 12. An Air India B787 also had a problem last week  after an oven overheated during a domestic flight, causing smoke.
