Princess Bassmah - Her Royal High-ness

Jordan's Captain Bassmah Bani Ahmad, the Arab world's first female aerobatic pilot, former instructor with Ayla aviation academy and chief pilot at the Royal Aero Sports Club, yesterday became a real Royal Jordanian pilot without being involved with the airline as she married His Royal Highness Prince Hamzah Al Hussain.

Princess Bassmah is an active member of the Arab chapter of the Ninety Nines and was promoting the case for women pilots during the Dubai Airshow in November where she was part of the Ayla team.

Yesterday the Royal Jordanian Court announced Prince Hamzah's marriage to Basmah Bani Ahmad Al Atoum, The marriage ceremony was held at Princess Basma's grandfather's house in Amman.

The ceremony was attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein, a number of Royal family members, Mr. Mahmoud Hassan Bani Ahmad, his wife and other members of his family.

King Abdullah held a lunch banquet at Basman Palace on the occasion of the wedding of Prince Hamzah and Princess Basma that was attended by a number of Royal family members, the prime minister, Senate president, Lower House speaker, president of the Judicial Council, Royal Court chief and other senior officials.

British educated Prince Hamzah is the son of the late King Hussein and his American-born wife Queen Noor.

A qualified fixed wing and rotor wing pilot, like his father  Prince Hamzeh trained at Sandhurst military academy in England where the Sandhurst Overseas Sword, granted to the best overseas cadet and the HRH Prince Saud Abdullah Prize, presented to the cadet with the best aggregate mark in academic subjects
