The workshops, held as part of Oman Air’s implementation of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and regulator requirements, were titled ‘Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment and Control (HIRAC) Workshops’  and were held from 12th to 14th November at the Golden Tulip hotel in Seeb, Muscat.

The training was organised under the guidance of general manager quality assurance Janab Al Sayyid Captain Manin Khalifa Al Said, who said during his opening address:

“The importance of knowledge attained through training such as HIRAC workshops cannot be overstated. Risk assessment is a key element in implementing safety management systems, ensuring that Oman Air operates safely, and offering a seamless passenger experience. Getting risk assessment right helps us understand our corporate exposure to risks and make a difference, not only in assuring our safety levels are always high, but also provide a basis to sound business decisions.

“I would like to thank Neil Richardson, a Senior Consultant at Baines and Simmons, for running these high-impact workshops and providing a deeper understanding of safety risks, using real life examples. I would also like to thank all those staff who took part and underwent a proactive and structured approach that gave them the tools to effectively identify hazards and evaluate risks before an event occurs.”
