New Doha International Airport delay opening

Posted 29 August 2012 · Add Comment

The new Doha International Airport will open for passenger traffic in the second half of 2013.

The original scheduled opening date was 12 December this year but this has been delayed due to the airport operator deciding to part company with a key contractor.

Analyst Saj Ahmad commented : "A delay in opening the New Doha International Airport is not bad news per se. We've seen from the disastrous events that surrounded the opening of a mere terminal at London Heathrow with Terminal 5, that things can rapidly go awry and take weeks to iron out.

“And with Qatar Airways being the largest operator out of NDIA, it comes as little surprise that any delay in its opening will be driven with their input as they look to avoid the pitfalls seen and experience by other airports.”

Ahmad concluded: “Coupled with Qatar Airways' soon-to-arrive new Boeing 787-8s, the airline has a chance to get to grips with this revolutionary airplane ahead of transferring operations to NDIA, a pushback on inaugural operations at this new airport is better than rushing head-on into a calamitous opening that could scar customers experience of this new world class facility.”
