The word ‘Tawazun’ - the Arabic word for balance – is specifically included in the new name to reflect the organization’s mandate of creating sustainable economic and social benefit for the UAE and its people.

Tawazun Economic Council was established in 1992 to oversee implementation of the offset programme.  With a mandate to facilitate joint ventures between local and international firms, Tawazun also invests in sustainable economic and social ventures in the country which are aligned to national imperatives and the country’s strategic economic master plan. Since its creation, it has helped attract direct foreign investment in the UAE, creating more than 40 joint venture organizations.

Both Tawazun Economic Council and its strategic investment arm, Tawazun Holding, focus on helping to build a specialised manufacturing and engineering industry backbone in the UAE and have recently undergone a refreshing of their brands’ ‘look and feel’.

Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, CEO of Tawazun said: “As Tawazun expands its horizons internationally, it is critical that our stakeholders understand the partnership opportunities available to them in the UAE. The Tawazun Economic Council’s new name aligns the organisation with the mandate that is at the core of its being, that of helping to create an economic and social balance in the UAE.

“Even though it has undergone a name change, Tawazun Economic Council’s goals remains the same. Our mission is to establish strong links between international contractors and our local private sector. We have an unrelenting focus on contributing towards economic and socially sustainable development which is helping to build a more diversified and knowledge-driven economy. At the very heart of our efforts is investment in people: investment that will add a tremendous value to the country’s efforts to build national capacity in the right places strategically but also ensure sustainable employment opportunities for our people both today and for the generations to come,” he said.
