Speaking at the Arab Aviation and Media Summit in Bahrain’s capital of Manama, Minister Mohammed said the contracts would be for baggage handling, security and screening as well as aerobridges.
Bahrain has embarked on a major airport modernisation programme aimed at boosting capacity to 14 million passengers annually and catering to Bahrain’s aviation needs until 2034 with the aviation sector now contributing 3.5% to the Kingdom’s non-oil GDP.
“We will award six major contracts within the next six weeks,” the minister said. The Minister added that investments are to be made in a new Gulf Air fleet to boost the airline’s standing as a leading carrier in the region.
