The order includes 10 A350-900 and 15 medium-haul A320neo airliners.

Analyst Saj Ahmad commented: “Kuwait Airways finally seems to have in place a long term re-fleet plan to help it better compete with its Arabian and international rivals while allowing fuel efficient jets like the A350-900 to help slash fuel and operational bills.

“There are still a plethora of structural, management and operational changes that Kuwait Airways has to undergo if it ever aims to return to profitability - and having lost huge market share to Jazeera Airways in the last few years, there is still much to do to get the airline truly turned around.”

Ahmad added: “While the firming up of new jets like the A320neo and A350-900 will on paper make Kuwait Airways look like a modern airline - it still has a lot of catching up to do in the GCC market as does its other rival Gulf Air.”
