KAC officials are expected to meet shortly with Boeing officials to discuss legal and technical matters.

Analyst Saj Ahmad commented: “Kuwait Airways has been looking to revamp its ageing fleet for some time now and it's interesting that just last week Boeing reported a new order for 10 777-300ERs from an unidentified customer - it could well be Kuwait Airways. At the same time, the discord from certain Kuwaiti quarters about awarding the recent order for new Airbus jets without including any Boeing jets could also be a trigger for the airline buying 777s - these would be available much earlier than the Airbus A350-900s that Kuwait Airways has on order.

Ahmad added: “If this deal comes to pass, one could question whether the A350-900 order will ever be delivered given the internal opposition to its selection in the first place. But given the expansion seen at other GCC airlines, Kuwait Airways has fallen way behind its peers and needs all the newest generation jets it can get its hands on to reduce its costs while it restructures.”
