Mohammad Amin Al Quran, the CEO of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission revealed that the Hashemite kigdom is studying the potential for the new airport and said that will allow training providers the space to operate as well as providing a base for smaller business jet and tourism.

“Jordan as a nation is committed to aviation we had ideas about developing a regional training centre for aviation. The events of the Arab Spring and then the current conflicts meant those plans were not realised. But they are a key part of our future plans," Al Quran said.

“The Amman civil aviation airport at Marka is busy and there is little opportunity for training. There are several options for a new airport that could work for training. One of these is near Petra and would work well for tourism, but we are studying other alternatives in both the north and the south of the country,” he said.
