The charter flight that linked Iranian capital with Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi, carrying a total of 180 passengers were onboard Аirbus A310-300.
Mahan Air, the second largest Iranian carrier, will operate two more flights to Sochi on March 27 and April 3. The flights are fully booked.
“It took us eight months to settle all the details regarding direct air links with Iran. Basel Aero is planning to sign an agreement with Mahan Air to introduce 28 flights for summer 2015 starting from June 24. There will be one Tehran-Sochi weekly flight in June-July. While in August, we’ll launch two flights per week. Sochi expects to host over 3,000 Iranian tourists,” said Basel Aero CEO Leonid Sergeyev.
Mahan Air passenger and cargo services & systems manager Mohammad Hossein Mahdian said: “Starting flights to Sochi on the eve of Iranian New Year Nowruz is symbolic for Mahan Air and for our passengers. Iranians learnt about Russian resort city of Sochi after the Winter Olympics in 2014. With the direct flights to Russian Olympic capital, they will be able to enjoy the city’s unique subtropical climate and learn more about regional culture. We are also planning to launch scheduled flights in summer 2015.”
