Iran is to see a 40% increase in ground-based defence radar

Iran is stepping up its defence radar systems according to the commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli.

Fars News Agency (FNA) reported the commander (pictured right) as saying his unit has bolstered ground-based air defenses against possible future threats from at least 3600 to 5,000 stations,
Esmayeeli said the plan is to increase the number of new radar stations and upgrade the existing systems to 5,000 in the coming year.
“The radars have been designed in different frequencies and with jump frequency, and also in (special) bands which cannot be heard by the enemies,” he added.
Last September, Iran unveiled new home-made radar systems capable of detecting radar-evading targets in any electronic warfare.
The long-range and high-precision radar systems are also capable of detecting targets in low radar cross section, resistant to radar-evading and anti-radar missiles. Many radar systems have been mounted in the mountainous and plain regions in Southeastern Iran.
According to Commander Esmayeeli, the multi-range radars can also detect wide-body and stealth targets as well as small planes, including drones, in long distances before they approach the Iranian airspace.
