And the first of the programmes was announced at the show as Flir introduced the latest technology for high fidelity imaging in high temperatures to protect borders and instillations such as airports or military bases.

The new state-of-the-art facility is located in the New Ministries complex in Al Muntazah near Khalifa Park. Fully equipped to facilitate briefings and product demonstrations, it features dedicated spaces for operator training and product service and maintenance. An initial staff of eight will support business development, product support, field service engineering, and product training roles.

“Flir remains strongly committed to providing cutting edge support for the missions and security of the UAE and other Gulf states,” said Kevin Tucker, general manager of Flir’s surveillance division. “By opening the new Abu Dhabi office, Flir is continuing to demonstrate its dedication to customers in the region.”

Flir has maintained facilities in the Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA) for over 15 years, recognizing that strong local presence is crucial to facilitating business in the UAE and elsewhere in the region. With the expanding business base, FLIR has decided to further grow its local footprint to improve customer support and communication.

“The importance of the UAE and the region cannot be over-emphasised,” said Steve Williams, vice president for global sales for Flir’s surveillance division. “In establishing this office, we are recognising that importance and fulfilling a goal of increasing long-term commitment to our customers in the region.”

The new technological advance announced at IDEX aims to provide best-in-class imaging solutions to border security operators around the world
One of the consistent challenges to thermal imaging in high temperature environments is atmospheric turbulence, or scintillation, which can reduce the effective range of a sensor.
At the show in Abu Dhabi Flir introduced Merlin ASX which adds powerful anti-scintillation technology that greatly improves imaging performance in hot climates.

Fully integrated and embedded within Ranger HDC and Ranger HRC ground-based infrared imaging systems, Merlin provides operators with greater range performance and sharper scene detail to deliver earlier threat identification and response.
Because it is integrated into the imager itself, Merlin processes raw video as opposed to compressed outputs for higher fidelity and clear video without extra equipment or latency.
