Gulf Air wins at GITEX Technology Week 2014 awards

Gulf Air was recognised threefold during the recent GITEX Technology Week 2014, a renowned IT expo that was held in Dubai, winning the GITEX 2014 Cloud Award for 'Best Big Data Solution', the ACN Arab Technology Award for Harnessing Innovation of the Year and the Global Enterprise Connect (GEC) Award for Best Company/Organization for Green IT initiatives.

Winning the prestigious GITEX 2014 Cloud Award in the category of Best Big Data Solution, Gulf Air, with its second consecutive win in this category, was recognized for its use of open source Big Data solutions to process complex volumes of data and for developing a system to monitor and analyse market situations relating to competitors. In tandem, Gulf Air’s IT developments and overall achievements to date were recognized with the Arab Computer News (ACN) Award for Harnessing Innovation of the Year - the most prestigious award offered for the use of cutting-edge technology to realize business advantage, making the airline the first Bahraini organisation to win it three years in a row. Winning its third award, from Global Enterprise. 

Connect (GEC), Gulf Air was heralded as the Best Company/Organization for Green IT initiatives - the only Bahraini company recognized in this category thanks to its Green IT drive. 

Gulf Air Acting chief executive officer Maher Salman Al Musallam said: “This is a great honor for Gulf Air’s IT department which consistently strives to support and facilitate the greater mission of our airline by continuously improving our information technology services to better meet the evolving needs of our passengers and, in tandem, Receiving the awards on behalf of Gulf Air, the airline’s Director of Information Technology. 

Dr. Jassim Haji said: “We are always delighted to have our efforts recognized and these awards reflect Gulf Air’s commitment and focus on IT excellence as we utilise newer and smarter technologies to enhance our passengers’ travel experience and internal operational Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, is renowned for its pioneering Information Technology achievements, becoming the first organisation in Bahrain to implement Private Cloud computing in its IT operations and introducing numerous innovations and improvements in its IT function.”
