Gulf Air partners with the UN for the MY World Survey

Peter Grohmann, the United Nations resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative explained: “Created by the United Nations, the MY World Survey is the first global survey. It is designed to utilize people’s voices and opinions to help shape the post-2015 global development agenda and therefore, allows world citizens to submit their six priorities, from a list of 16, which they believe would have the most impact on their future.”

Gulf Air’s chief operations officer, Captain Nasser Al Salmi added: “The UN’s initiative to allow, for the first time, the perspectives of the world’s citizens to be heard in the heart of the UN is a great opportunity for Bahrain. As the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, we at Gulf Air commit to participate and contribute to the future of the globe and I sincerely hope that all the citizens and residents of Bahrain join us in supporting this very important initiative by voting online.”

The UN set up a voting booth at Gulf Air at which all employees were given the opportunity to vote for the six issues which would make the most difference to their lives.

Since they were adopted in 2000, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), have made a huge impact on the lives of millions of people. Global leaders are now discussing how to build on the progress and confront the challenges that will continue to affect people and the planet after the 2015 MDG deadline. It is for that reason that the United Nations developed this survey, in order to contribute to the consultative process which informs the Secretary General and his Higher Level Panel in the establishment of the post-2015 development agenda. The sixteen issues cover the existing MDGs, in addition to issues of sustainability, security, governance and transparency. Over one million people have participated and shared their priorities so far.

MY World can be accessed at www.myworld2015.org in fourteen different languages, including Arabic and English.

The results of the survey will be analyzed by the UN and its partners and presented to global leaders, including the High-level Panel on Post-2015 Agenda led by: David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, President of Liberia; Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia and Queen Rania of Jordan.
