In line with its strategy to develop the aviation sector of the U.A.E and the region, Abu Dhabi Airports Company's Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS) recently hosted diploma and high school students at its headquarters in Al Bateen Executive Airport as part of an overall strategy to develop aviation in the UAE and the Gulf.

The aviation and airport industry has witnessed double-digit growth throughout the region in the past decade and the trend is expected to continue. This tremendous growth has created a need for aviation professionals, and the GCAS plays an important role in attracting students from the younger generation. It does this through many initiatives that increase awareness of this dynamic industry and the opportunities that exist.

In the latest of these initiatives, held toward the end of Abu Dhabi Air Expo 2013, GCAS experts met with students from Abu Dhabi to raise awareness of the industry and to highlight its growth.

More than 120 aeronautical engineering students from the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and twelfth-grade students from the Emirates National School attended the sessions and were taught about the vital role the aviation industry plays in the UAE’s economy and the career opportunities that exist.

Aws N. Al Khanjari, general manager of GCAS commented: “The aviation industry has been a key driver in bringing the world closer together, connecting places, people, cultures and nations.  Aviation is a key driver of the UAE economy, directly and indirectly contributing to more than 14.7% the UAE GDP and currently employs more than 433,000 people. Aviation is expected to play an even more vital role in the UAE economy with the UAE firmly establishing itself as the centre of the aviation world.”

“Through the informative sessions, GCAS aims to raise awareness that a career in aviation is beyond being a pilot or a flight attendant. There is a whole range of varied and exciting career opportunities today, such as in traffic control and operations aviation marketing. The courses will have opened doors to help students consider the industry for varied career opportunities.”
