GCAA hosts annual safety conference and focuses on fatigue

The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Air Navigation and Aerodrome Department (ANA) held its 6th Annual ANA Safety Seminar. The event which was titled "Fatigue & Human Factors Managementfor Air Navigation & Aerodromes” was supported by both national and international civil aviation organizations, and was seen by many delegates as another successful major event in the UAE safety promotion calendar.

H.E Saif Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director General, said in his opening address: “The GCAA is committed to empowering the UAE Aviation industry to lead the way in continually making improvements to Fatigue management to meet the highest safety standards set by the international civil aviation organization.”

Over 150 participants from UAE air traffic control units, airports, airlines, government agencies and the wider industry attended the two day workshop which featured speakers from the GCAA, the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO, Paris Descartes University (France), Airbus Prosky and other renowned entities.
 
The seminar objectives revolved around identifying and promoting an improved awareness of what is fatigue and human factors, and understanding how these affect aviation operations staff and what the resultant risks to operations are. The seminar provided an opportunity to propose actions and mitigations to implement an efficient fatigue risk management system to provide needed protection to staff and industry from the adverse effects of fatigue and human focus limitations. Delegates took advantage of the opportunity to network and brainstorm during the workshop to determine ways to foster continuous improvements to safety within the industry.
