Falcon goes deeper into Africa

Abu Dhabi headquartered Falcon Aviation Services is further penetrating the developing African aviation market with this week's signing of a total turnkey solutions contract, including the wet lease of a NextGen Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 turbo-prop, with Ghana's domestic private carrier Starbow, which is now eyeing the regional market. FAS has now set up a line station in the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

The move strengthens the FAS foothold in West Africa following the signing of a similar contract, last November with Dakar-headquartered Senegal Airlines, which operates domestic and regional flights out of Leopold Sedar Senghor International. The contract covers the wet-lease of two NextGen Dash Q400s – one already in service - provision of aircraft, crews, spares and maintenance.

And FAS Chief Operating Officer, Captain Mahmoud Ismael says more sub-Saharan developments are in the pipeline with a major breakthrough deal “imminent.”

The FAS African accords means the emerging aerospace player now has two of its recently acquired Bombardier Dash 8 Q400s operating within the continent with Ismael describing the 78 passenger turbo-prop “the aircraft for Africa” because of its high performance and operational efficiency capable of servicing the continent’s ‘thin’ routes and more remote landing strips.

Falcon currently operates three Dash Q400s which have been received over the past six months with a further three due for delivery this summer.
