The Abu Dhabi airline has signalled its commitment to deepening relations with Air BP Lubricants by signing up staff to the Air BP Lubricants’ online Training Academy.

Air BP Lubricants is the world’s largest supplier of high performance capable aero-derived turbine oils . The move, which represents the largest commitment made to the Air BP Lubricants’ online training academy by a single airline, highlights the way the educational tool is being chosen to complement Air BP Lubricants supply of high performance turbine oils and disseminate the company’s technical expertise.

“The Air BP Lubricants’ Training Academy is all about supporting our customers in all lubricant related operations and providing them with a means of continuous professional training,” said Rodger Harris, Air BP Lubricants, global sales director.

“A key part of the programme is that it documents the proven performance of products such as the world’s leading HPC lubricant BPTO 2197. We take it as a significant endorsement that a blue chip company such as Etihad Airways has recognised the value of the training academy so emphatically.”

Etihad Airways converted to the BPTO 2197 lubricant in 2009. Captain Richard Hill, Etihad Airways’ Chief Operations Officer, said: “Air BP Lubricants has supported Etihad Airways at all times during its conversion to BP Turbine Oil 2197, and the entire Etihad Airways fleet is now operating using BPTO 2197.

“The Air BP Lubricants’ ‘Conversion Programme’ was well written and the BP Technical Support Team assisted successfully and on time.

“We have experienced significant performance and reliability improvements by reducing the number of oil degradation and coking events to zero.”

Air BP Lubricants’ Training Academy offers a programme covering key aspects of the aviation industry’s use of turbine oils. The tool offers users a comprehensive suite of eight modules moving through the definition of a lubricant, to turbine oil composition, the different applications for BP turbine oils, a market-wide survey establishing which lubricants are in direct competition, detailed turbine oil specifications, servicing and monitoring, and storage and handling.

The module questions can be taken in any order and at a pace which suits both available time and learning speed. On completion of the Air BP Lubricants’ Training Academy online, the user can download a certificate in recognition of his or her achievement.
