The celebration coincides with the day the UAE received the ‘Official Host’ status for the World Expo2020 at a handover ceremony in Milan.

Students, aged 14 to 17 and predominantly Emiratis, toured the Etihad Airways – Alitalia joint Expo pavilion, the UAE pavilion, and were treated to a range of interactive and entertaining activities.

Italy’s youngest Michelin-starred chef Lorenzo Cogo and Etihad Airways Inflight Chefs hosted a live cooking session under the theme Preparing the Future Chefs. Emirati cuisine and the origin of various traditional ingredients were highlighted to instill pride in the national heritage among students while also highlighting the importance of learning from different cultures.

The students also had the opportunity to interact with Etihad Airways staff and senior representatives, asking questions and learning about the airline, its products and sustainability initiatives.

Hareb Al Muhairi, Etihad Airways’ senior vice president corporate and international affairs, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the momentous occasion of UAE National Day at Expo Milano with young students from Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

“Young people are the nation’s hope for tomorrow and the catalysts for real progress and innovation. Offering them the opportunity to learn and explore at a global event such as the Expo is part of our commitment to youth education and future success.”
