The partnership will provide Etihad with cloud, analytics, mobile, security and cognitive technologies, enhancing guest experience, develop infrastructure and security, and improve efficiency.

The cloud data centre planned in the agreement will be created in Abu Dhabi, and developed and operated by IBM.

The cloud centre will be one of the most sophisticated technology centres to be set up in the Middle East.

Martin Jetter, senior vice president, IBM Global Technology Services explained what IBM will bring to the partnership: “By partnering with IBM, Etihad Airways is accelerating the move to new technologies such as cloud computing and cognitive. These technologies will help the airline to improve efficiencies and achieve its ambitious growth plans as a globally integrated aviation group.”

The agreement will see 100 Etihad Airways information technology employees moving to IBM in order to access further IT skills development opportunities.
