"For Emirates, it's working. We are satisfied with this deal," said Emirates chief commercial officer Thierry Antinori.

Under the alliance, the companies share some revenue, Emirates is letting Qantas share its new terminal, which was for the exclusive use of its Airbus A380, and Qantas has moved its European operations base from Singapore to Dubai.

Analyst Saj Ahmad commented: “After all the years of Qantas' lamenting Emirates power and hurling false accusations at them, the new found partnership started last year couldn't have delivered more differing outcomes in the Emirates-Qantas partnership.

“Just last week, we saw Qantas lose money hand over fist, whereas Emirates is bulking up its higher yielding business and first class traffic through Dubai - almost exclusively at Qantas' expense.”

Ahmad added: “Emirates will also be pleased that its recent pact with Jetstar gives them access to the lucrative trans-Tasman routes as well - Emirates' patience in firstly not responding to Qantas' claims several years ago is now paying off - as the stronger entity in this partnership, Emirates is picking off Qantas prime routes, traffic and business to bolster its own bottom line. In 8-10 weeks times when Emirates announces results for 2013, the difference they'll deliver in contrast to the walking disaster than is Qantas, many in Australia will wonder what exactly Qantas gets out of this deal aside from a whole lot of ‘nothing’”.
