CTT zonal drying systems to give flydubai emission and cost savings

Dubai-based low-cost carrier, flydubai, has ordered 31 zonal drying systems from CTT to be installed in the airline's new B737-800 aircraft.

The systems, which eliminate condensation in the aircraft, will be installed by Boeing at production line on flydubai’s aircraft to be delivered 2011-2015.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s chief executive, said: “The CTT system will give flydubai significant savings in emissions and fuel costs over the life of our fleet. For one aircraft in one year this system reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 69 tons, nitrogen oxide emissions by 200kg, hydrocarbon emissions by 35kg and carbon monoxide emissions by 480kg. When the rest of our fleet is fitted with this system we will be saving 2,100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year – and that’s equivalent to the emissions from 660 cars. These savings are incredible and combined with flydubai’s other efforts to minimize emissions will ensure we operate one of the most environmentally friendly fleets in the industry.”

CTT’s VP sales & marketing Ulf Liljenberg said “This is one of CTT’s most important orders as it is for a large amount of aircraft and from a new expanding airline operating in the very dynamic middle-east region. With the currently fast rising fuel prices we are happy to help flydubai keeping their costs down and the fact that flydubai is a very efficient low cost carrier with high load factors and high utilisation will maximize the benefits of our zonal drying system.”

CTT has been a regular exhibitor at events like the Dubai air show and MEBA and has demonstrated advantages of the system to airline and business aviation operators. Basically by eliminating condensation in the aircraft both operational and maintenance costs are lowered through lowered fuel consumption (i.e. lower aircraft weight due to elimination of accumulated water); improved operational reliability (i.e. less corrective maintenance); consistent insulation performance (i.e. water reduces insulation performance); and the company claims the aircraft residual value will be protected or even improved due to reduced corrosive impact over the years.

Reduced fuel burn (due to lowered aircraft weight) also has a positive impact on the environment, the Swedish company said.

CTT’s zonal drying system has been selected as basic equipment for the new B787 Dreamliner.
