A J Walter Aviation, the aircraft spares support specialist, is calling for applications to be considered for the company's AJW bursary where it supports a student through a Masters degree in aircraft maintenance management in conjunction with London's City University.

Open to all applicants from the worldwide aviation industry, the MSc. Aircraft Maintenance Management improves knowledge of the complex disciplines required to enable full understanding of the various technical, operational and financial pressures impacting on flight operations. Closing date for entries is October 31st.

One person who knows first hand how valuable the bursary can be is Julius Fernandes, an IT projects controller with Emirates Airline who was winner of the 2009 bursary. Fernandes has completed the course, making his final submission this summer.

His closing project for the course focused on improving the paper-based technical log process currently used by airlines, and the potential benefits of implementing an electronic solution.

“AJW is very proud to have contributed towards the education of such a capable individual and wishes Julius all the best in his future endeavours” said AJW president, Christopher Whiteside. “Our industry is constantly changing, we need to prepare our engineering professionals to meet future challenges by equipping them with the management skills they will need across technical, legislative, safety and operational disciplines. If we can combine people, solutions and infrastructure with transferable skills of the highest calibre, we can maintain levels of excellence across all aspects of the airline and MRO business. We are proud to maintain our support for this excellent course which enhances career progression at the very heart of the global aviation industry.”

Applications are invited immediately from students: email: bursary@ajw-aviation.com
