The delivery marks ten years after Boeing’s first delivery of the 777-300ER to a customer.

Analyst Saj Ahmad commented: “It is quite fitting that the 500th 777-300ER finds its way into Emirates' fleet. With over 10% of the entire current 777 deliveries in Emirates' fleet and the only airline in the world to operate all 6 variants of the 777 family, it is no surprise that the 777-300ER has been the erstwhile backbone of their long haul network operations, opening up a swathe of new city pairs out of Dubai that no other jet could match.

"And with the firming up earlier this month of 115 777-9X and 35 777-8X jets, it is evident that the 777X family will do for Emirates' organic international expansion on a bigger scale that the 777-300ER has done for them so far in the last decade."

Ahmad added: "Equally, the 777 family has proven to be a big financial cash-cow for Boeing, despite the routine industry discounts that large customers like Emirates and others get for new airplanes - arguably, the 777-300ER has reached this 500-unit milestone faster than any other widebody jet (in just a decade) and if Boeing can manage it, it appears the 787 family could eclipse this accolade."
