AIME 2010: Laselec lasers make light of cable runs

Posted on 1 March 2010 in Aircraft Interiors

Cable marking specialist Laselec of France of France is showing the latest addition to its range of ultra-violet laser marking machines.

The cables installed in massive bundles on aircraft could be a logistical nightmare if each one wasn’t permanently identified. This used to be done with a sleeve heat-shrunk on to the cable. Approved by all the leading aircraft manufacturers, the laser solutions offered by Laselec indelibly apply an identity to the exterior of the cable, leading to significant weight savings.

Laselec’s compact MT 200 checks the markability of the cable before work starts, and carries out periodic quality controls during production. The company describes it as easy to use, with low maintenance and operating costs and high reliability.

Also on show here are Laselec’s Ulys Modena and MRO 200 series. Ulys Modena is designed for high production volumes and comes in four different models, the most powerful of which is the two-laser Ulys 990 Modena . The more compact MRO 200 range is intended for smaller production runs.

Laselec offers two ranges range of support equipment – Comet and MRO Cut. The first checks the legibility of the cable markings, while MRO Cut provides a way of automatically cutting cables and wires to specified lengths
