Arabian section of 99s hosts third annual meeting in Bahrain

The Arabian section of the female pilots' organisation, the Ninety Nines, is for the first time able to give scholarships for women in the section to enhance their aviation careers and invest in their members .

This was one of the announcements from the group as it held its third annual meeting in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the patronage of the ministry of transport and the support of the Bahraini Civil Aviation Authority
Some 36 members from various locations around the Middle East, and the Ninety Nines management from the USA, gathered in Bahrain to celebrate the group’s 25th anniversary.
The meeting extended over three days, each day was held under a theme, the first day was the charity day, the members enjoyed their day with orphans and children with cancer and gave the youngsters them a day never to forget.
Governor of the Arabian section, Royal Jordanian pilot Alia Twal said: “The kids flew in a private jet to Saudi Arabia for touch and go and returned back to Bahrain with excitement in their eyes and joy in their hearts but this didn't stop here, they were able to taste the actual feeling if flying by flying the Airbus 320 simulator with Gulf Aviation Academy, they were also able to visit the beautiful colorful DHL Boeing B757 cargo plane which was parked for the kids to go and see it and learn about the parts of the plane and see the difference between a cargo plane and a passenger planes .

They were introduced to the aviation world and thanks to the support and cooperation of Gulf Aviation Academy , Mena Aerospace , DHL aviation and Aventura , Bahrain Airport Services, Bahrain airport company, Gulf Air and Ayla Academy, who all helped the kids with fulfilling their dream of being a pilot for a day.”
In the evening,140 guests were invited to the grand opening ceremony that was held and sponsored by Movenpick Hotel , members , guests , sponsors and media all enjoy the opening ceremony and there were plenty of interviews to be done by the lady pilots. At the dinner the Arabian section announced special discounts to be offered to women who are interested to join aviation
The second day was the friendship day , the members enjoyed their time visiting an island in the Gulf and trying out one of the traditional Bahraini activities of pearl hunting by collecting oysters and learning how to open them and look for pearls – there was a great result as some of the visiting pilots found pearls in their oysters. ,
The final day saw the ladies on a tour of discovery around Bahrain, visiting the traditional places, eating traditional food and going to the forts and museums to understand more of the country’s history with its rich traditions.
The Ninety Nines recruited two new members and Waed Al Dossary from Bahrain was named as the vice governor for the section, “Waed is a team player and powerful women,” Alia said. “It was a memorable experiences that took us back to our countries with new passions and enthusiasm to achieve more, recruit more members, and encourage more women to join aviation,” Alia said.
The Ninety Nines is a non profit international organisation for female pilots it was established in 1929 today has more than 5,300 members from around the world
The Arabian section is currently the largest and fastest growing overseas section of the 99s it was established in 1989 by 12 members of the 99s in Saudi Arabia and today the Arabian section has over 63 members from all around the world with different aviation experiences and backgrounds ,but one thing in common ..... The passion to fly .
