Algerian C295 crashes in France
An Airbus military C295 belonging to the Algerian Air Force crashed in the area of Lozere in the South of France at around 15:45 local time yesterday.
The aircraft was on its way from Paris, France, to Algeria. Sources suggest the aircraft was carrying bank notes.
It is understood there were six people on board.
Airbus Military immediately sent a Go Team to the site of the accident to help clarify the circumstances of this accident.
In a statement, the manufacturer said "The thoughts of the company and its employees are with those affected by this accident."
The area is mountainous. Eye witnesses in the area have reported that the bodies of crew and two others have been found in the front section of the aircraft which broke apart from the rest.
Rescuers are looking for the two other people believed to have been on board.
The military said the plane was delivering equipment from France for the Bank of Algeria. It was on its way back to North Africa when the crash occurred.
Around 90 firefighters attended the scene of the crash in a forest clearing near the village of Trelans, the fire service said.
