Al Busaidy returns to Oman Air in new operations role

Abdulrahaman Al-Busaidy, the former CEO of Oman Air has returned to the Muscat-based airline in the role of chief operations officer.

Since leaving Oman Air in 2006 Al-Busaidy has been in a key management role with Indian carrier Jet Airways where he was chief strategy and planning officer.
The appointment comes at a critical time for Oman Air, as it prepares for its next phase of rapid expansion, which will begin with the arrival later this year of the first of the 20 new aircraft that the airline currently has on order.
Oman Air’s acting CEO, Salim Al Kindy, said: “We are delighted to welcome Abdulrahaman Al-Busaidy to the newly-created post of chief operating officer, where his formidable skills and extensive experience will be crucial in helping to guide Oman Air through its next phase of development.
The airline’s commercial, network planning, and strategy and business development divisions will report to Al Busaidy, who took up his post on 1st July.
After achieving a BSc degree in aviation management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, USA, and an MBA from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, Al-Busaidy went on to develop a high-flying career in the aviation industry. He worked for 19 years, until 2000, for Gulf Air, rising to the position of executive vice president marketing responsible for sales, marketing, inflight services, ground services, reservations and marketing planning before being appointed CEO at Oman Air where he modernized the airline’s fleet and rationalized it from five types of aircraft to two. He also expanded Oman Air’s network and invested in systems such as revenue management, departure control and e-ticketing, achieving profitability in 2006 and setting the stage for the airline’s subsequent expansion.
