Air Arabia records record first half performance

A remarkable second quarter performance by Sharjah-based Air Arabia saw the budget carrier announcing a net profit of $67.5 million (Dhs248 million) for the first half, up by 85%, after more than doubling its second-quarter profit to $47 million (Dhs173 million).

The airline said that its average yield also increased by 6% and it recorded revenues for the first six months of $470 million – a 15% increase over 2013. Air Arabia increased capacity by 11% over the half-year and transported more than 3.3 million passengers. Its load factor reached 83%.
The results were an all-time high for the airline, which it attributed partly to a “dynamic fuel management policy” and close focus on cost management.
“Air Arabia’s outstanding start to 2014 has accelerated in the second quarter as the investments made into our operational capacity and cost management have continued to deliver results,” chairman Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammad Al Thani said.
He added that the carrier will "remain focused on its ceaseless cost management operation".
