Air Arabia breaks in to the Cairo market

Sharjah-based Air Arabia has begun services to Cairo International. The Egyptian capital's main airport had, until recently, been off limits for low cost carriers which were restricted to destinations such as Alexandria, Assuit and Sohag.

The first non-stop flight left on Thursday following a special ceremony attended by senior officials from Air Arabia and the Egyptian Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Ihab Emam Hamouda.
The flight was the first of three weekly flights to Cairo. Flights depart Sharjah International Airport on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, at 13:00 arriving in Cairo International Airport at 15:20. Return flights depart Cairo at 16:00 arriving in Sharjah at 21:20 local time.
Adel Ali, group chief executive, said: “We are very proud to have launched our inaugural flight to Cairo, marking our fourth destination in Egypt and 90th worldwide. This is a significant destination for us in terms of strengthening our connectivity with the country and enhancing bilateral ties between Egypt and the UAE. The addition of Cairo as our latest destination will benefit tourists wishing to explore the historic city, and the rest of the country, as well as providing convenient and affordable flights for Egyptians living in the UAE wishing to travel home.”
