Abu Dhabi Airports' Midfield Terminal Building site unveils cooling plant

Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, chief executive officer, Abu Dhabi Airports, and Sulaiman Al Siksek, chief programmes officer, officially inaugurated the plant, after the system was successfully pressure tested. 

With a total capacity of 55,000 metric tons of refrigerant, the district cooling plant will provide air conditioning for the MTB through 18 chillers and two thermal energy storage tanks. 

Al Siksek said: “I am delighted that this major milestone in the MTB’s construction has been reached. Sustainability and innovation are at the core of the building’s design, demonstrating Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to being a leader in this field. The district cooling system meets rigorous international green building standards and utilizes innovative technology to increase energy efficiency and provide sustainable air conditioning for the MTB.” 

The district cooling plant provides chilled water from a centralised cooling station, through a network of pipes, for air conditioning purposes.
