Keynote speaker, Professor Heinrich H. Bülthoff, from the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, will introduce the research conducted under the MyCopter.eu project. This project, funded by the European Union under the 7th Framework program, seeks to identify the enabling technologies needed to adapt the helicopter for urban commuting.

Far from the dreams of SF fans, the work that is done today will enable urban areas inhabitants to benefit from fast and safe air transportation, without interfering with existing air traffic, thus allowing these helicopters to travel freely.

Professor Bülthoff will discuss the state of the research and compare the current use of helicopters with the goals of their work. Many other prestigious universities and research centers are working on this project.

Industry and authorities representatives will discuss the current and future use of helicopter and the way it can be integrated in urban environment.

They will also debate the use of helicopter as a personal transportation system, especially when used in conjunction with commercial and general aviation (“last 50 miles” concept).

Technical aspects such as silencing rotors, increasing cruise speed, research on automatics flight stabilization and piloting aids will also be discussed.

Professor Bülthoff will be joined by industry experts, manufacturers representatives and Civil Aviation members from UAE, Europe and executives of AOPA USA in this panel discussion.

The Abu Dhabi Air Expo will run from March 6-8 2012 at Al Bateen Executive Airport.
