The certification is helping lead towards the A320neo with LEAP engine beginning delivery in mid 2016.

“We are very proud of what we have accomplished with the LEAP-1A engine together with Airbus. The flight test program has been a big success and we can’t wait to start bringing LEAP’s outstanding fuel efficiency, low maintenance costs, and world-class reliability to our customers later this year,” said Jean-Paul Ebanga, CFM president and CEO.

The LEAP-1A was selected in 2010 and flew for the first time on the A320neo last year, and has since accumulated 1,000 flight hours and 350 test flights on board two A320neos.

The engine powers the A319neo, A320neo, and the A321neo, and features advanced technology, such as a 3-D woven carbon fibre composite fan blades and fan case, and a unique debris rejection system.
